LA VERNE, Calif. – The Macalester College water polo team concluded the Claremont Convergence with losses to La Verne and University of Redlands on Saturday at Las Flores Pool. The Scots drop to 1-7 on the season, with all seven losses coming against teams from California and Arizona.
Against La Verne, Macalester surrendered the first four goals of the match before junior
Eleanor Michaud (Long Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) put the Scots on the board late in the second quarter. The Leopards reeled off another six goals to lead 10-1 until Michaud scored again with 2:08 left in the third quarter. Michaud scored another goal, and seniors
Riley Waters (Portland, Oregon/St. Mary's Academy) and
Annika Krueger (Emerald Hills, Calif./Sequoia) also found the net in a 15-5 La Verne win. Â
In the day's final game, goals by Michaud and Krueger knotted the score at 2-2 late in the first quarter. Redlands put the match out of reach by stringing four goals together twice around a tally from Michaud to lead 10-3 late in the third quarter. First year
Elizabeth Matlin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) scored just before the end of the third quarter, and first year
Kendall Coney (League City, Texas/Clear Creek), Michaud and Waters (twice) notched goals in the final quarter of the 14-8 defeat. Sophomore goalkeeper
Laurel O'Hare (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) made six saves in goal for Macalester.
