ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College water polo team wrapped up the Macalester Invitational Sunday at Riley Pool. The Scots fell to Occidental, 8-6 and lost to La Verne, 15-6 in the final match of the two-day, 16-match tournament.
Against Occidental, Macalester received goals from senior
Riley Waters (Portland, Oregon/St. Mary's Academy), junior
Eleanor Michaud (Long Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson), first year
Brooke Lane (Meriden, Conn./Hopkins School) and junior
Sydney Hollingsworth (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) to take a 4-3 lead after three quarters. After Waters scored in the first 10 seconds of the fourth quarter, Occidental responded with three straight goals to lead, 6-5. First year
Olivia Dimka (Denton, Texas/John H. Guyer) found the net to tie the score at 6-6. But Occidental closed out the match with two goals for the win.
In the Scots' second match of the day, La Verne tallied the first six goals of the match and never looked back. Michaud scored a pair goals, while Hollingsworth, Dimka, Lane and first year
Elizabeth Matlin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) also scored for Macalester. Sophomore goalkeeper
Laurel O'Hare (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) registered six saves.
The Scots head to California to play four matches on Mar. 4-5.
