ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College sophomore forward
Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) was chosen the MIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 2, the league announced today. Haenicke tallied three goals and an assist in two MIAC wins last week.
In a 3-1 victory at Bethel on Wednesday, Haenicke found the net in the 69th minute, just six minutes after the Royals had made it a one-goal game. Then on Saturday against Hamline, he assisted on a goal by junior midfielder
Branko Sciortino (Los Altos, Calif./Bellermine College Prep) in the 15th minute, and scored twice in the second half to secure a 3-0 win. It was Haenicke's first brace of the season and second of his career at Macalester. He now leads the Scots with five goals and an assist for 11 points on the season.
Last year Haenicke earned All-MIAC honors after registering eight goals and four assists for 20 points as a first year. He is the first Scot to receive MIAC Player of the Week since Sept. 3, 2019, when
Cade Fink '21 was recognized.
Macalester returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 8 with a non-conference game at UW-Whitewater. The game starts at 4:00 p.m. in Whitewater, Wis.
