ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming and diving team defeated Saint Benedict in a dual meet, outscoring the Bennies, 147.0 to 95.0 Saturday afternoon at Riley Pool. The Scots were victorious in 10 of the 13 events.
Macalester opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, with sophomore
Verity Wray-Raabolle (Owatonna, Minn./Bethlehem Academy), first year
Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais), sophomore
Natalie Pollock (Madison, Wis./Madison West) and sophomore
Anna Rakowski (Vergennes, Vt./Vergennes Union) finishing in 1:52.58.
For the second meet in a row, sophomore
Kate Yehle (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) won both diving events. Last week's MIAC Diver of the Week, Yehle took the 1-meter board with a score of 217.30 and won the 3-meter event with a score of 202.30. Senior
Katie Kelbrants (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South) finished second behind her teammate in both dives.
First year
Skye Schmit (Stillwater, Minn.) was the Scots' other double winner, as Schmit won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.16 and placed first in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:25.80. First year
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) won the 1000-yard freestyle (11:13.64) and took second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.91). Pollock was first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.56) and second in the 200 freestyle (2:05.11). Senior
Grace Madigan (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.52, while Uhlhorn-Thornton took first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.62.
Other Scots swimming well included Rakowski, who was second in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard freestyle; first year
Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson), who was second in the 100-yard butterfly and third in the 1000 freestyle; sophomore
Caroline Chapon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township), who was second in the 400-yard individual medley; sophomore
Olga Merkadeau (Lafayette, Calif./The College Preparatory School), who placed third in the 50 freestyle; Wray-Raabolle, who was third in the 100 backstroke; and sophomore
Eleanor Petrin (Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka), who took third in the 100 butterfly.
Macalester closed out the meet with another relay victory, as the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Henry, Chapon, Schmit and Madigan turned in a winning time of 3:45.43.
The Scots look to make it three dual wins in a row next Saturday, Nov. 5, when they host Carleton. The meet starts at 1:00 p.m. at Riley Pool.
