ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming and diving team won 12 of the 13 events contested in a dominating win over Luther College, 168.5-71.5 in the first competition of the 2022-23 season Saturday afternoon at Riley Pool. Three first years each won two events in their collegiate debuts.
In the first event of the meet, the team of sophomore
Verity Wray-Raabolle (Owatonna, Minn./Bethlehem Academy), first year
Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais), sophomore
Natalie Pollock (Madison, Wis./Madison West) and first year
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:52.61.
In the individual swimming events, Uhlhorn-Thornton won both the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17.51 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.75. Henry was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.63) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.39). Fellow first year
Skye Schmit (Stillwater, Minn.) also won two events, taking first in the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:00.37 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:22.82. First year
Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) placed second in both the 100 butterfly (1:01.93) and the 500 freestyle (5:38.02).
Returnees also had solid swims, as senior
Grace Madigan (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.37, and Pollock captured the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.46. Sophomore
Caroline Chapon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) finished second in the 200 IM (2:20.00) and the 100 freestyle (57.48), Wray-Raabolle was second in the 100 backstroke (1:02.41), Madigan took second in the 200 freestyle (2:04.80) and sophomore
Anna Rakowski (Vergennes, Vt./Vergennes Union) placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.34) and finished third in the 100 freestyle (58.03).
Macalester wrapped up the meet with the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Schmit, Rakowski, Pollock and Chapon winning with a time of 1:43.81.
In the diving events, sophomore
Kate Yehle (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) won on the 1-meter board with a score of 206.65, then took the 3-meter event with a score of 230.15.
Macalester hosts Saint Benedict next Saturday, Oct. 29 in another dual meet. The meet starts at 1:00 p.m. at Riley Pool.
