Box Score St. Paul, Minn. – Macalester College women's soccer team hosted Hamline this afternoon in a conference matchup. Macalester dominated the game, spending most of the game in their offensive half, and won 2-1. The Scots' record is now 7-2-3 (3-1-1 MIAC).
Sophomore
Ella Short (Denver, Colo./Denver East) got the Scots off to a quick start, with a saved shot in the first minute of the game. Senior
Lucy Grochulska (Henrico, VA./Henrico) had her shot saved as well before the Scots took the lead in the 18
th minute. Junior
Mia Brisbin (Los Angeles, Calif./Crossroads School) scored off an assist from senior
Lily Lorenzen (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco). Macalester doubled its lead in the 32
nd minute, sophomore
Gaby Valle (Compton, Calif./Chadwick School) tapped the ball into the net, assisted by junior
Ella Thomsen (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto).
Macalester continued to dominate in the offense, out shooting the Pipers 15-2 in the match. Lorenzen, Brisbin, Thomsen were strong attacking players for the Scots, creating multiple chances. Seniors
Sarah Hamilton (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) and
Abby Ecker (Portland, Ore./St. Mary's Academy) also took chances on frame for Macalester in the second half. The Pipers would cut the lead to one in the 75
th minute, but the Scots' defense kept Hamline at bay the rest of the match. The Scots walked away with a 2-1 victory.
The Scots' next game will be Tuesday Oct 4. Macalester travels to Duluth to take on St. Scholastica at 4:00 p.m.
