Northfield, Minn.– The Macalester College women's soccer team travelled to Northfield to play a conference matchup against St. Olaf College. At the end of the contest, the Oles bested the Scots 2-1. Macalester's record is now 4-2-1 (1-2-0 MIAC).
From the first whistle, Macalester knew that the game would be a battle. Senior goalkeeper,
Dana Gustafson (Ames, IA/Ames) made nine saves in the first half to keep the game close. St. Olaf found the back of the net in the 32
nd minute to put the Oles ahead. Sophomore
Mia Brisbin (Los Angeles, CA/Crossroads School) looked to answer back in the 37
th with a shot that was saved by St. Olaf's goalkeeper, Brynne Davis.
Macalester pressed forward to get back to a level scoreline. Junior
Celia Lesmeister (Decorah, IA/Decorah) and senior
Alice Bieda (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) led the attack. However, in the 72
nd minute the Oles put up another one to double their lead.
Scots' sophomore
Ella Thomsen (Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto) scored in the 85
th minute but the Oles took the game. Macalester's next game will be Sunday, Sept. 26. They will play Finlandia University at Macalester Stadium.
