Women’s Soccer: Scots Dominate Against Finlandia

St. Paul, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team played its eighth game of the season this afternoon. The Scots hosted Finlandia University in a non-conference game. The Scots dominated the match and came out with a 3-0 win.

Macalester took to the offense early. The Scots retained possession of the ball and made multiple attacks through the middle. In the 22nd minute, sophomore, Mia Brisbin (Los Angeles, CA/Crossroads School) put one past the Lions to put Macalester in front. A minute later, first year Ruby Rogers (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) pushed Macalester's lead to two after her shot was deflected in by Finlandia.

Macalester picked up where they left off, with back-to-back shots from senior Alice Bieda (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) and junior Celia Lesmeister (Decorah, IA/Decorah) in the first three minutes of the second half. In the 67th minute, first year Ella Short (Denver, CO/Denver East), gave the Scots a 3-0 lead, off an assist from fellow first year, Caighley Espardinez (Camarillo, CA/Rancho Campana).

Macalester retained most of the possession the rest of the half, and closed out the weekend with a victory. Their record is now 5-2-1 (1-2-0 MIAC). The Scots' next match will be Wednesday, Sept. 29. They will host Bethel University in a MIAC matchup.
