St. Paul, Minn. – The Macalester College women's soccer team played its eighth game of the season this afternoon. The Scots hosted Finlandia University in a non-conference game. The Scots dominated the match and came out with a 3-0 win.
Macalester took to the offense early. The Scots retained possession of the ball and made multiple attacks through the middle. In the 22
nd minute, sophomore,
Mia Brisbin (Los Angeles, CA/Crossroads School) put one past the Lions to put Macalester in front. A minute later, first year
Ruby Rogers (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) pushed Macalester's lead to two after her shot was deflected in by Finlandia.
Macalester picked up where they left off, with back-to-back shots from senior
Alice Bieda (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) and junior
Celia Lesmeister (Decorah, IA/Decorah) in the first three minutes of the second half. In the 67
th minute, first year
Ella Short (Denver, CO/Denver East), gave the Scots a 3-0 lead, off an assist from fellow first year,
Caighley Espardinez (Camarillo, CA/Rancho Campana).
Macalester retained most of the possession the rest of the half, and closed out the weekend with a victory. Their record is now 5-2-1 (1-2-0 MIAC). The Scots' next match will be Wednesday, Sept. 29. They will host Bethel University in a MIAC matchup.
