Minneapolis, Minn. – In their seventh game of the season, the Macalester men's soccer team traveled to Minneapolis to play Augsburg University in a conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. Despite out-shooting the Auggies sixteen to seven, the Scots fell 1-0. The Scots now have a record of 3-4 (1-1-0 MIAC).
The Scots looked to put pressure on the Auggies early. Within the first eight minutes of the game, first year
Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy), and seniors
Omar Anwar (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area) and
Ben Wagner (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) each got a shot off. The Scots continued to press forward. However, the stalemate was finally broken in the 30
th minute by Augsburg's Kobby Owu.
The Scots continued to press in the second half. Shots by juniors
Thomas Dono (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) and
Joey Stern (Chicago, Ill./Francis W. Parker) forced the Augsburg goalkeeper, Oscar Herrera to make a couple saves. Macalester continued to battle and sought to earn back a goal.
Despite registering seven shots in the second half, the ball didn't find the back of the net for the Scots and the score line ended 1-0 in favor of the Auggies. The Scots' next match will be a non-conference game against University of Minnesota-Morris. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Macalester Stadium.
