ST. PAUL, Minn. – Four members of the Macalester College softball team were among those honored as the MIAC announced its year-end awards for softball today. Senior
Audrey Meade (Cedar Hills, Utah/Pleasant Grove) and junior
Mackenzie Clarke (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) were named to the All-MIAC Team, while senior
Kate Lawhead (Battle Ground, Wash./Prairie) received All-MIAC honorable mention. Senior
Olive Tambou (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) was included on the MIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Meade makes the All-MIAC team this spring after receiving all-conference honorable mention as a sophomore in 2019. Meade batted .407 to lead the Scots and rank eighth in the MIAC. She also drove in a team-best 12 runs while posting a slugging percentage of .559 to rank 12th in the conference. In a doubleheader with Carleton on April 18, Meade had five hits, including a triple, with two runs and two runs batted in. She closed out the season going 6-for-9 with a homer, a double, three runs and three RBIs over the final three games of her career as a Scot.
Clarke had a breakout season this spring, batting .373 with six doubles and seven RBIs. She led the team with 25 hits while tying Meade with a team-best 10 runs. The Scots' most consistent hitter, Clarke registered at least one hit in 18 of her 22 games played while reaching base in 20 games. In a sweep of Saint Mary's on April 11, she had three hits, including a double, to go with a run and an RBI.
Lawhead batted .356 with 21 hits, six runs and 10 RBIs in her best season as a Scot. In the team's biggest win of the year, a 4-2 victory over nationally-ranked St. Thomas on April 10, she went a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI. Lawhead also had a three-hit game with two doubles and two RBIs against another nationally-ranked team in Saint Benedict on April 26. In the field, she committed just two errors in 166 chances for a .988 fielding percentage at first base.
Tambou made an impact defensively in centerfield this season, playing in 20 games with 12 starts. She also led the team with three stolen bases in three attempts, giving her 11 thefts in 13 attempts for her career. She also scored 16 runs in her four years as a Scot.
Angela Huepfel of St. Catherine was named the MIAC Player of the Year, St. Olaf's Julie Graf was selected the Pitcher of the Year, and Bryn Carlstrom of Saint Benedict was chosen the Rookie of the Year. St. Olaf's Kayla Hatting was named the MIAC Coach of the Year.
