St. Paul, Minn.- The Macalester College men's tennis team fell to a top MIAC ranked Carleton College team by a score of 8-1. The Scots are now 5-3 (5-3 MIAC) after today's loss while the Knights improve to 7-1 (6-1 MIAC).
The Scots were swept in doubles play but the no. 1 slotted senior pair of
Sam Hochberger (Maple Grove, Minn./ Maple Grove) and
Ben White (Parkersburg, W. Va./Parkersburg South) fought hard but ultimately lost 8-7 after dropping the tie-breaker by a score of 7-3.
No. 3 slotted juniors
Jeffrey Jorgensen (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) and
Alexander Poland (Madison, Wis./Maison West) lost their match by a score of 8-6.
Sophomore
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) won the lone match for the Scots from the no. 5 position in singles play. Sullivan edged his opponent in three sets. Sullivan won set one by a score of 6-3 then lost set two by a score of 7-5 before taking set three by a score of 10-6.
The Scots close out the regular season on the road at Saint John's University on Sunday, May 2.
