St. Paul, Minn.- The Macalester College men's tennis team fought extremely hard in their home match against the University of St. Thomas but ultimately fell by a score of 5-4. One singles match that went to three sets along with one doubles match that went to a tie-breaker proved to be the difference. The Scots are now 5-2 (5-2 MIAC) while St. Thomas improves to 9-5 (7-1 MIAC).
In doubles play, sophomore
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) and senior
Aidan Toner-Rodgers (Sebastopol, Calif./Analy) picked up a big 8-3 win from the no. 2 position. No. 1 slotted senior pairing of
Sam Hochberger (Maple Grove, Minn./ Maple Grove) and
Ben White (Parkersburg, W. Va./Parkersburg South) came up just short after losing 8-7 (7-4) in the tiebreaker.

Hochberger also won his singles match in two sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Junior
Jeffrey Jorgensen (Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) grabbed a win from the no. 2 slot in singles by winning set one and set two with scores of 7-5 and 6-3. Sullivan picked up the third singles win for the Scots from the no. 5 slot in two straight sets. Sullivan won set one and two by a score of 6-3. No. 3 slotted junior
Karsten Knutsen (Minneapolis, Minn./Riverfield Country Day (Okla.) took his opponent to three sets dropping the first set and winning set two before ultimately losing set three by a score of 10-6.

Macalester will take on Carleton College at home on Saturday May 1. The match is set to start at 11:00 am.
