Box Score 2 MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Macalester College softball team lost a pair of games to Concordia College in a MIAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the Cobber Softball Diamond. The results snap the Scots' five-game winning streak and drops them to 5-5 overall and in the MIAC. The Cobbers improve to 16-12, 4-6 MIAC.
In Game 1, Macalester trailed 2-0 after Concordia scored single runs in the third and fourth innings. The Scots answered in the top of the fifth, when senior
Kennedy Kechely (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) drove in junior
Mackenzie Clarke (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) with a double. Senior
Audrey Meade (Cedar Hills, Utah/Pleasant Grove) eventually singled home Kechely to tie the score at 2-2. The deadlock continued until the bottom of the sixth, with the Cobbers scoring the go-ahead run to lead, 3-2. The Scots put runners on second and third with two out in the top of the seventh, but a popup ended the threat and the game.
Kechely finished with two of Macalester's six hits. Sophomore
Joia Simonson (Pardeeville, Wis./Portage) pitched all six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while walking one and fanning five.
The Scots started the second game well, with Clarke hitting a two-out double and sophomore
Regan Brodine (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) following with a run-scoring single for a 1-0 lead. Meade brought home senior
Olive Tambou (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) with a single in the top of the second to give Macalester a 2-1 edge. Concordia broke the game open with six runs in the third and two more in the fourth for a commanding 9-2 lead.
The Scots battled back in the top of the fifth, loading the bases with one out. First year
Jessica Katzin (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) singled home Kechely, then senior
Kate Lawhead (Battle Ground, Wash./Prairie) drove in two runs with a single to make the score 9-5. But that's as close as the Scots would get, as Concordia pushed two more runs across to lead 11-5.
Katzin finished the second game with three hits, while Brodine, Clarke and first year
Elsa Church (St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood) each had two hits apiece.
Macalester hosts Carleton on Sunday, April 18 in a home MIAC doubleheader. The first game starts at 3:30 p.m. at the Macalester Softball Complex.
