St. Paul, Minn.- The Macalester College baseball team earned a Saturday split with MIAC foe Hamline University. The Scots came out swinging in game two, collecting 14 hits and scoring seven runs. Macalester improves to 4-8 (4-8 MIAC) while Hamline falls to 6-12 (3-4 MIAC).
In game one, Hamline plated a run in the bottom of the second inning. Macalester responded in the top of the third inning. Senior
Sam Rosevear (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) led the inning off with a double down left field line. Rosevear advanced to third base on a single from sophomore
Erik Hager (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South). The next at-bat, sophomore
Joe Margolis (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Rosevear and make the score 1-1.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Pipers responded with four runs of their own to take a 5-1 lead. Sophomore
Kenny Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./George School) hit a solo homerun to cut into the deficit but Hamline soon went onto win game one by a score of 5-2.
Senior
Will Madairy (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day School) got the start for the Scots on the mound but only went 2.2 innings. Senior
Jake Greenberg (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) came out of the bullpen for the Scots and provided two scoreless innings and only allowed one hit. Senior
Matt Polemeni-Hegarty (Golden Bridge, N.Y./John Jay) also pitch 1.1 innings out of the bullpen and did not surrender one hit or one run.

Margolis started game two off with a walk then advanced to second on a single from first year
Matt Odom (Glendale, Calif./St. Francis). Margolis later came around to score on a double off the bat of junior
Lian Lincoln (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage) to take a 1-0 lead.
Senior
Cooper Jensen (Washington, D.C./ The Field School) led off the second inning with a single to right field and was later brought around to score on a Margolis double down left field line. Margolis then came around to score after Odom singled and the Pipers made a throwing error. After two innings of play, Macalester led Hamline 3-0.
The Scots scored four runs in the top of the third inning. First year
Matt Mukai (Foster City, Calif./Aragon) doubled to left center to start things off. Senior
Zach Fried (Tai Tam, Hong Kong/Hong Kong International School) and Margolis both walked to load the bases. Odom then hit his first collegiate homerun in grand slam fashion to give Macalester a commanding 7-0 lead.
After jumping out to a 7-0 lead after three innings the Scots were unable to score any more runs. The Pipers score two runs in the fifth inning to cut into the deficit.
Hamline also scored in the seventh and rallied to score two runs in the eighth inning. First year
Matt Rade (Westborough, Mass./St. John's) came in to throw the last two innings of the game and held the Pipers off to help secure the win.
Sophomore
Ty Benz (Saverna Park, MD./Severn School) pitched five innings for the Scots while only allowing four hits and two runs to earn his second win of the season. Sophomore
Peter Aspholm (Winthrop, Wash./Liberty Bell) came out of the pen and threw two scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
The Scots and Pipers will face off in game three of the series tomorrow, April 18. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 am.
