Winona, Minn.- The Macalester College men's tennis team rebounded after a tough loss to Gustavus by defeating Saint Mary's University by a score of 8-1 to win their first match of the year. The Scots improve to 1-1 (1-1 MIAC) while Saint Mary's falls to 3-6 (1-4 MIAC).
The Scots swept doubles play to start the day. Seniors
Sam Hochberger (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and
Ben White (Parkersburg, W. Va./Parkersburg South) won a tough 8-7 match to win in the no. 1 slot. No. 2 slotted pair of senior
Aidan Toner-Rodgers (Sebastopol, Calif./Analy) and sophomore
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) won their match 8-4. No. 3 slotted junior
Alexander Poland (Madison, Wis./Maison West) and junior
Jeffrey Jorgensen Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo-Atherton) rounded out doubles play with an 8-1 win.

Karsten Knutsen (Minneapolis, Minn./Riverfield Country Day (Okla.), White, and Sullivan all won their singles matches in two sets.
Macalester will host St. Olaf College April 15 for their first home match in over a year.
