Northfield, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team played in the semifinals of the MIAC playoffs today against Carleton. While the Scots battled the whole game, the Scots ultimately fell 1-0 to the Knights.
It was a rocky start for the Scots, conceding a goal in the first minute of the game. Yet the Scots continued to battle, putting the ball into the Scots' attacking third. Towards the middle of the half, the Scots took multiple chances, including shots from senior
Danny Peak (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar), junior
Thomas Dono (Plymouth, Mich./Salem), and sophomore
Branko Sciortino (Los Altos, Calif./Bellermine College Prep).
In the second half, the Scots continued to fight and look to gain back a goal. Senior
Omar Anwar (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area) had his shot towards the end of the half saved by the Knights goalkeeper. Despite the Scots attempts, they could not overcome the 1-0 deficit. The Scots end their season with a record of 9-9-1 (5-4-1 MIAC).
The game was also the final competition for seniors Anwar, Peak,
Will Orser (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial),
Cade Fink (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North),
Jack Muller (Carmel, Ind./Carmel),
Ben Wagner (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park),
Quinn Frankovsky (Boulder, Colo./Boulder), and
Rohit Shah (Sunnyvale, Calif./Harker School). The Scots return 28 players next fall.
