ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team lost a MIAC road match at Bethel University, 25-18, 25-6, 25-14 Friday night in the Robertson Center. The result drops the Scots to 13-11 overall and 4-6 in the conference, while the Royals, who are ranked 20th in the latest national poll, improve to 20-5, 9-1 MIAC.
Macalester stayed with Bethel for most of the first set and trailed 17-14 before the Royals closed out the set with an 8-4 run to win 25-18. Bethel notched 18 kills while limiting the Scots to just three kills in a dominating 25-6 win in the second set. The third set saw the Royals put away 20 kills compared to nine for Macalester en route to a 25-14 win and the sweep. For the match, Bethel hit .463 and held the Scots to a .090 hitting percentage.
Junior
Eliza King (Novato, Calif./San Marin) had seven kills and four digs, while junior
Zoe Lowe (Longmont, Colo./Longmont) and first years
Adisa Preston (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and
Gwen Wooten (Allen, Texas/Allen) each added four kills. Preston also registered three blocks, while first year
Torrance Williams (Houston, Texas/Yes Prep Northbrook) paced the defense with seven digs. Danielle Friedges led Bethel with 10 kills.
The loss also eliminated Macalester from contention for a berth in the MIAC Playoffs. The Scots will conclude the 2021 season on Saturday, Oct. 30 with a conference match at St. Catherine, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in St. Paul.
