St. Paul, MN – The Macalester men's soccer team traveled to play a conference game against Hamline University. The match was a tough battle for both teams, but Macalester beat the Pipers 2-0.
The match proved to be a physical battle for the teams. For the Scots, first year
Hans Haenicke (Lisle, IL/Benet Academy) led the attack with three shots in the half. Junior
Thomas Dono (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) had his shot in the 35
th minute saved by the Pipers' goalkeeper. Senior
Rohit Shah (Sunnyvale, CA/Harker School) and sophomore
Howard Henderson (Minneapolis, Minn./Blake School) tried their luck before the half ended, but the teams remained scoreless.
Three minutes into the second half, Dono took a shot at the Pipers' net to keep the forward attack going for the Scots. Haenicke also continued the attack, registering five shots in the half. Finally, the Scots pressure paid off, as Haenicke's shot in the 83
rd minute went into the back of the net. To seal the victory for the Scots, sophomore
Branko Sciortino (Los Altos, CA/Bellermine College Prep) scored a goal of his own in the 90
th minute.
The Scots have now improved their record to 6-5-0 (3-2-0 MIAC). Next up for the Scots, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater comes to Macalester Stadium, Sunday, Oct. 10 at 3:00 p.m.
