St. Paul, Minn. – Macalester College women's soccer team continued its season hosting Grinnell College in a non-conference matchup. The Scots dominated in the attack, winning 2-0
over the Pioneers.
At the start, Macalester maintained possession and continued to get the ball into the attacking third. The Scots' efforts were rewarded in the 10
th minute, when junior
Celia Lesmeister (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) placed the ball into the corner of the net, off a pass from fellow junior,
Ana Berman (New York, N.Y./High School of American Studies). Just seven minutes later, senior
Carolyn Eckstein (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) slid the ball into the corner of the net, assisted by junior
Lucy Grochulska (Henrico, Va./Henrico). The Scots maintained a good majority of the possession and took their lead into the break.
Macalester continued their attack with a shot from senior
Alice Bieda (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North), in the 56
th minute, that forced the Pioneers' goalkeeper. While Grinnell seemed to battle back more the second half, strong defending from sophomore
Livi Novello (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing), junior
Lily Lorenzen (San Francisco, CA/Urban School of San Francisco) and senior
Hannah Conner (Madison, Wis./Madison West) kept the Pioneers from getting too far into the attack.
The Scot played a strong game all over the field, and won 2-0. Macalester's record is now 10-3-2 (4-3-1 MIAC). Macalester's next opponent will be the College of Saint Benedict. The game is set for 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 23, at Macalester Stadium.
