St. Paul, Minn. – Macalester College women's soccer team hosted a conference match against College of St. Scholastica. The Scots dominated the game and came from behind to earn all three points against the Saints.
Macalester dominated in possession and shots during the game. Within the first two minutes of the game, the Scots had gotten off five shots, with senior
Carolyn Eckstein (Bryn Mawr, PA/Radnor) taking the fifth shot forcing a save by the Saints' goalkeeper. Throughout the half, multiple Scots took attempts at goal, including junior
Celia Lesmeister (Decorah, IA/Decorah), seniors
Hannah Conner (Madison, Wis./Madison West),
Alice Bieda (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North), and sophomore
Ella Thomsen (Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto). Yet it was the Saints who put a score up first. With a goal in 26
th minute, St. Scholastica headed into the break ahead by a goal.
However, the Scots knew their time would come and continued their offensive press in the second half. Macalester's breakthrough came in the 53
rd minute when junior
Lucy Grochulska (Henrico, VA/Henrico) slid a ball past the Saints' keeper off a nice pass from Thomsen. Just two minutes later, the Scots would move into the lead with a goal from Eckstein off an assist from Conner. Throughout the entire course of the game, the Scots rattled off 25 shots, forcing 10 saves.
The Scots' sharp attacking skills and determination led to a 2-1 victory. Macalester's record is now 8-3-2 (3-3-1 MIAC). Next up, the Scots will play Carleton on the road. They will travel to Northfield on Saturday, Oct. 16, for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
