Women’s Soccer: Scots are Precise in their Shots, take the Win over Carleton

Northfield, Minn. – Macalester College women's soccer team continued its fall campaign with a trip to Northfield to play Carleton College in a conference matchup. The Scots were precise in their shooting, and earned a 2-0 victory.

In the first half, Macalester played strong defense against the Knights. Senior goalkeeper, Dana Gustafson (Ames, Iowa/Ames) made five saves in the half to keep the Scots in the game. However, it wasn't all defensive for the Scots. In the 19th minute, sophomore Ella Thomsen (Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto) put on past the Knights to give the Scots a one goal lead. Then, just before half in the 43rd minute, senior Zoe Kross (Queen Creek, AZ/Basha) doubled the Scots lead off an assist from first year Mikaely Evans (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South).

In the second half, the Scots maintained their lead with strong defensive play. Junior Lily Lorenzen (San Francisco, CA/Urban School of San Francisco) and senior Hannah Conner (Madison, Wis./Madison West) stepped up in the back for the Scots. Gustafson would make four more saves in the half, bringing her total to nine for the night.

The Scots' shooting precision led to the 2-0 win. Macalester's record is now 9-3-2 (4-3-1 MIAC). Next up, the Scots will play Carleton on the road. The Scots' next game will be Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. They will play Grinnell College at Macalester Stadium.
