ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College baseball team received the Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association, the organization announced today. The Scots were one of a record 429 college and high school programs to earn the award this year.
In order to be honored, teams must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the 2019-20 academic year. Last month, 10 Scots were named to the Academic All-MIAC Team:
Nathan Levinson (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont),
Kieran Liming (Alpharetta, Ga./South Forsyth), rising seniors
Alex Denzler (New York, N.Y./Trevor Day School),
Zach Fried (Tai Tam, Hong Kong/Hong Kong International School),
Cooper Jensen (Washington, D.C./The Field School),
Andrew Polk (San Mateo, Calif./St. Ignatius College Prep) and
Jack Sahargun (Coto de Caza, Calif./Tesoro), and rising juniors
Will Moscato (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley),
Anthony Palma (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman) and
Louis Silverman (New York, N.Y./Bronx HS of Science).
The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/Diamond Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
