ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College senior outfielder Julia Carpenter (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore) was nominated for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Carpenter was one of a record 605 college athletes across all divisions to be nominated.

Rooted in Title IX, the NCAA Woman of the Year Award was established in 1991 to recognize graduating female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

Carpenter is a three-time All-MIAC and NFCA All-Region outfielder who was batting .500 in six games before her senior season was canceled. Last season, she batted .453 with 58 hits, 38 runs and 23 stolen bases this season. She led the MIAC in batting average that year while ranking second in stolen bases, third in on base percentage (.517), and fifth in both hits and runs. An All-American honorable mention selection in 2017, Carpenter holds career records at Macalester for stolen bases (80), runs (117) and batting average (.440), while ranking second in hits (178).

A psychology and English double-major at Macalester with a grade point average of 3.95, Carpenter was selected to the Division III Softball Academic All-America second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) last month. She has received the NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete Award three times while earning a spot on the MIAC Academic All-Conference Team in 2018 and 2019.

The nominees represent all three NCAA divisions, including 259 nominees from Division I, 126 from Division II and 220 from Division III. Nominees competed in 24 sports, with multisport student-athletes accounting for 128 of the nominees.
