ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team faced the University of Wisconsin-Superior in a midweek non-conference contest on Wednesday night, falling 3-1 at Macalester Stadium. The score was tied 1-1 after 75 minutes of play, but the Yellowjackets scored two late goals to earn the win.

Webster An scored the Scots' lone goal of the game, tying it 1-1 in the 68
th minute. This was An's second goal in his career and first goal of the year for Macalester.
It was Macalester who opened the game with scoring chances, taking three shots within the first 18 minutes. However, it was UW-Superior that ended up scoring first, as the Yellowjackets headed in a goal off of a throw-in the 21
st minute to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Scots took two more shots in the half, but both went wide to allow the Yellowjackets to keep their 1-0 lead going into halftime. Macalester goalkeeper

In the second half, UW-Superior had the first scoring opportunities, firing three shots within the first 15 minutes. In the 68
th minute of the game Macalester was fouled in the box and awarded a penalty kick. The kick was saved by the Yellowjackets' goalie, Dalton VonKaenel, but senior
Webster An took advantage of the rebound, putting it away to tie the game at one apiece.
The game remained tied 1-1 for about the next ten minutes before UW-Superior was awarded a penalty kick of their own. The Yellowjackets found the back of the net on the PK to put them ahead 2-1. UW-Superior added to their lead in the 82
nd minute, scoring to make it 3-1.
Macalester gave themselves some chances down the stretch, being awarded an additional penalty kick, taking a corner kick, and aiming a shot on net, but were unable to convert.
The Scots are next in action on Friday, September 6
th when they will hit the road for the first time this season to face Wartburg in Waverly, Iowa.
