WINONA, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team opened the 2019 campaign at the Saint Mary's Tournament with a pair of losses Friday night at Saint Mary's Gym. The Scots fell to Dubuque and UW-River Falls on the tournament's first day.
Against Dubuque, Macalester battled but came up short, 25-16, 25-19, 25-10. First years
Eliza King (Novato, Calif./San Marin) and
Zoe Lowe (Longmont, Colo./Longmont) paced the offense with five kills apiece. Sophomore
Claire Loomans (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) delivered 14 assists, while first year
Katrina Schoen (Grafton, Wis./Cedarburg) led the defense with 14 digs.
In the second match of the night, the Scots struggled to build momentum and lost, 25-10, 25-9, 25-10 to UW-River Falls. Lowe had four kills, while Schoen notched 20 digs.
Macalester wraps up play at the Saint Mary's Tournament with matches against UW-Superior at 10:00 a.m. and Luther at 12:00 p.m.
