Box Score 2 WINONA, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team concluded play at the Saint Mary's Tournament Saturday morning at Saint Mary's Gym. The Scots lost a close battle with UW-Superior in four sets before falling to Luther, 3-0.
The day started with two competitive sets against UW-Superior, with the Yellowjackets winning both, 27-25 and 25-18. In the third set, Macalester scored the first five points, including two kills from first year
Zoe Lowe (Longmont, Colo./Longmont), and built a 20-15 advantage. UW-Superior came back to tie the score at 24-24, but Lowe tallied back-to-back kills to clinch the set for the Scots. Macalester was unable to carry the momentum into the fourth set, as the Yellowjackets secured the match with a 25-16 win.

Eliza King (Novato, Calif./San Marin) each registered nine kills, while senior
Ashley Helfinstein (Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead) and junior
Sofia Parmelee (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) added seven kills apiece. Sophomore
Claire Loomans (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) dished out 27 assists and notched 12 digs. Defensively, first year
Katrina Schoen (Grafton, Wis./Cedarburg) and senior
Hannah Detlaff (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial) had 18 and 10 digs, respectively, while Parmelee registered four blocks.
In the second match of the day, Luther held off Macalester, 25-15, 25-14, 25-20. King had seven kills, with Loomans contributing 20 assists and six digs. Schoen racked up 24 digs defensively.
Macalester continues its season on Tuesday, Sept. 3 with a non-conference match at North Central University. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Minneapolis, Minn.
