Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College softball team split with No.4-ranked University of St. Thomas today. The Scots won Game 2, 4-3 and snapped the Tommies' 18-game win streak.

In the second game of the day, Macalester took a quick two run lead in the top of the first inning. With junior Julia Carpenter (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore) on second and sophomore Kennedy Kechely (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) on first,  junior Kaela Jackson (Seattle, Wash./James A. Garfield) was walked to load the bases for Macalester. The Scots scored their first run when the St. Thomas pitcher walked sophomore Kate Lawhead (Battle Ground, Wash./Prairie). Then senior Claire O'Connor (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to send Kechely home and put the Scots up 2-0. Carpenter leads the MIAC in batting average as she is currently hitting .483. 

Macalester then doubled the lead in the fifth. Jackson hit an RBI single to left field to advance Carpenter, who was on third, to score. Up 3-0, Kechely scored a run after getting on base with a double to center field earlier. Lawhead hit a single to advance Kechely and put the Scots up 4-0. The Scots defense held despite the Tommies scoring three runs in the final two innings. Macalester won 4-3. Senior pitcher Sophie Migacz (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) lead the Scots over the ranked Tommies.

Earlier in the day, the Scots lost 8-0 to the Tommies in the first game of the double header.

Macalester returns to play on Wednesday, April 24, against St. Catherine University at home in St. Paul, Minn.
