SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Macalester College water polo team played their first two games of the CWPA Regional Conference Tournament hosted by Wittenberg University and beat both Austin College and Monmouth College.

Macalester beat Austin College 11-7 to start the day off. In the first quarter, the Scots led 3-2 with goals from senior Lucille Moran (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) and junior Oriana Galasso (Gresham, Ore./Central Catholic) as well as on from first year Riley Waters (Portland, Ore./St. Mary's Academy).

The game continued with the Scots ahead 5-3 in the second as Galasso and Waters each scored again. The Scots then outscored the Roos 6-4 in the final two quarters. In the third, sophomore Cara Mullery (Palmetto Bay, Fla./Mast Academy) scored both for the Scots. To seal the win in the fourth, Galasso and Mullery again each scored a goal and senior Natalie Hoffman (Seattle, Wash./Inglemoor) scored two.

In the second game, Macalester faced Monmouth College and won 13-10. The Scots took a 3-2 lead in the first with goals from first year Annika Krueger (Emerald Hills, Calif./Sequoia), Galasso and Waters.  In the second, Mullery, Waters and Overland each scored a goal apiece to make the score 6-5 to the Scots.

Macalester outscored Monmouth in the third 5-3. Krueger, Moran, and Waters scored for the Scots and junior Naomi Strait (Beaverton, Ore./Beaverton) tallied two. Each team scored two goals in the fourth quarter and the Scots won 13-10 as Moran and Galasso sealed the win for the Scots.

Senior goalkeeper Courtney Overland (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani) made 17 saves against Austin and 13 versus Monmouth.
