ORANGE, Calif. – The Macalester College water polo team lost to Chapman University today 7-6.
The Scots fell behind 2-0 in the first quarter but recovered to tie the game 2-2 in the second with goals from sophomore Cara Mullery (Palmetto Bay, Fla./MAST Academy) and senior
Lucille Moran (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron). The Panthers then scored three straight to take back the lead.
But with 45 seconds left in the quarter Moran scored her second goal to make the score 5-3. Chapman scored the only goal of the third quarter.
In the fourth, Macalester pulled one back as sophomore Adeline Steward-Nolan (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park And River Forest) scored her second goal of the season.
Chapman continued to score and tallied one more goal to lead 7-4 with just over four minutes left in the game. Macalester made a run to tie the game with goals from first year Riley Waters (Portland, Ore./St. Mary's Academy) and senior
Natalie Hoffman (Seattle, Wash./Inglemoor). But the Scots were unable to find the third goal to even the score and the Scots lost 7-6.
Junior Oriana Galasso (Gresham, Ore./Central Catholic) had two assists and senior goalkeeper
Courtney Overland (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani) tallied 11 saves.
