ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's basketball team lost to Saint Mary's University, 75-59 Wednesday night in the Leonard Center. The conference loss leaves the Scots at 4-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference heading into the holiday break, while the Cardinals improve to 5-1, 3-1 MIAC.

Saint Mary's took control of the game early, leading 20-7 midway through the first half. Macalester stormed back in the game with a 16-2 run that saw sophomore guard Eric Sathy (Cupertino, Calif./Homestead) and senior guard Nathan Davies (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) hit threes and junior guard Gabriel Ramos (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Tasis Dorado) score four points to put the Scots on top, 22-21. But the Cardinals regained the lead by closing out the half with a 13-7 run for a 34-29 advantage at the break. Macalester shot 50.0 percent from the field in the first half compared to 45.2 percent for Saint Mary's.

A pair of baskets from junior forward Jackson Henningfield (Lake Mary, Fla./Lyman) helped the Scots cut the deficit to three, 36-33 early in the second half. The Cardinals eventually were able to push the lead up to 15 points, sparked by 11 straight points that made the score 50-35 with 13 minutes to play. A three-pointer from Ramos, two free throws by Sathy and a basket from sophomore center Shane Anderson (Fargo, N.D./Davies) brought Macalester to within eight, 50-42 with 11:35 remaining.

Later in the half, Henningfield made back-to-back buckets to make it a six-point game, 57-51 with 6:21 on the clock. But the Scots would not get any closer, as Saint Mary's outscored Macalester, 10-2 over the final 2:05 to clinch the win. The Scots were held to 28.6 percent shooting from the field in the second half and made just 6-of-28 from three-point range for the game.
