ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's basketball team lost to Saint Mary's University, 75-59 Wednesday night in the Leonard Center. The conference loss leaves the Scots at 4-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference heading into the holiday break, while the Cardinals improve to 5-1, 3-1 MIAC.
Saint Mary's took control of the game early, leading 20-7 midway through the first half. Macalester stormed back in the game with a 16-2 run that saw sophomore guard
Eric Sathy (Cupertino, Calif./Homestead) and senior guard
Nathan Davies (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin) hit threes and junior guard
Gabriel Ramos (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Tasis Dorado) score four points to put the Scots on top, 22-21. But the Cardinals regained the lead by closing out the half with a 13-7 run for a 34-29 advantage at the break. Macalester shot 50.0 percent from the field in the first half compared to 45.2 percent for Saint Mary's.

Jackson Henningfield (Lake Mary, Fla./Lyman) helped the Scots cut the deficit to three, 36-33 early in the second half. The Cardinals eventually were able to push the lead up to 15 points, sparked by 11 straight points that made the score 50-35 with 13 minutes to play. A three-pointer from Ramos, two free throws by Sathy and a basket from sophomore center
Shane Anderson (Fargo, N.D./Davies) brought Macalester to within eight, 50-42 with 11:35 remaining.
Later in the half, Henningfield made back-to-back buckets to make it a six-point game, 57-51 with 6:21 on the clock. But the Scots would not get any closer, as Saint Mary's outscored Macalester, 10-2 over the final 2:05 to clinch the win. The Scots were held to 28.6 percent shooting from the field in the second half and made just 6-of-28 from three-point range for the game.
Henningfield registered 15 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks for his second straight double-double and fourth of the season. Sathy finished with 11 points, seven boards and three steals, while Anderson tallied 10 points and seven rebounds. Eli Cave paced the Cardinals with 19 points and seven boards.
Macalester's next game is Jan. 4 at Carleton. The MIAC game begins at 1:00 p.m. in Northfield, Minn.
