Men’s Basketball: Henningfield Leads Macalester Past North Central, 75-66

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Junior forward Jackson Henningfield (Lake Mary, Fla./Lyman) registered 20 points, nine rebounds and two blocks to pace the Macalester College men's basketball team to a 75-66 victory over North Central University Friday evening in the Leonard Center. The non-conference win gives the Scots a 2-2 record on the season, while the Rams fall to 0-4.

Neither team led by more than four points for most of the first half until an 11-0 run by North Central put the Rams on top, 28-21 with 5:23 on the clock. The lead increased to eight before three-pointers by Henningfield and junior guard Gabriel Ramos (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Tasis Dorado) brought Macalester to within two, 33-31 with just over a minute left in the half. The Rams went up by five until a late basket by Ramos made the halftime score 38-35 North Central. Ramos scored 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field in the first half.

Over the first four minutes of the second half, the Rams used a 9-5 run to take a 47-40 advantage. A three-pointer from sophomore guard Eric Sathy (Cupertino, Calif./Homestead) sparked a 7-0 run that tied the score at 47-47 with 12:16 to play. After Jalen Dunlap hit a three for North Central, the Scots went on a 14-4 spree that included six points from Henningfield and three-pointers by Sathy and senior guard Mike Babb (St. Louis, Mo./St. John Vianney) to put Macalester on top, 61-54 with 7:09 remaining.

North Central responded by scoring seven of the next nine points to make it a two-point game, 63-61 at the 5:17 mark. But the Scots wouldn't relinquish the lead, closing out the win with a 12-5 run ignited by another Babb trey and six more points from Henningfield. Macalester held a 40-34 edge in rebounding and shot 16-of-19 (84.2 percent) from the free throw line compared to 15-of-22 (68.2 percent) for the Rams.

Henningfield made all seven of his attempts from the charity stripe en route to his first 20-point game of the season. Ramos finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Sathy tallied 14 points. Sophomore center Shane Anderson (Fargo, N.D./Davies) had another solid performance, compiling 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field and grabbing nine rebounds. Micah Filer led North Central with 17 points.

The Scots conclude their non-conference schedule with a game at Crown College on Thursday, Nov. 21. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in St. Bonifacius, Minn.
