MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Macalester volleyball team competed against Concordia College on Saturday afternoon, falling in three sets (25-14, 25-18, 25-14) on the road. The Scots move to 3-14 on the season and 0-5 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers improve to 4-12 and 1-2 in the conference.
Macalester was led offensively by junior
Kendall Ford (Seattle, Wash./The Northwest School) and first year
Eliza King (Novato, Calif./San Marin) who each had seven kills in the match. Ford was particularly efficient, hitting for a team-best .286 percentage.
Defensively, first year libero
Katrina Schoen (Grafton, Wis./Cedarburg) tallied 20 digs for Macalester. This was the sixth time this year that she has recorded 20 digs or more for the Scots and she currently has 300 digs on the season, which ranks in the top-five in the MIAC.
Sophomores
Claire Loomans (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) and
Claire Wilson (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) each had 10 assists apiece.
In the first set, Macalester got off to a good start, taking four of the first five points. From there, the Scots kept within two in the middle portion of the set, but the Cobbers rattled off six points in row to pull away 17-9. Concordia went on to take set one 25-14.
The Scots and the Cobbers traded points for the first part of set two, as it was tied 8-8 early in the set. Concordia then went on a scoring run, scoring nine of the next ten points to hold a 17-9 lead. Macalester fought back, though, getting themselves within six before the Cobbers took set point with a kill from Marissa Thompson. Macalester hit for their best percentage in this set with King leading the way with four kills.
In the third set, the Cobbers hit for a .360 percentage and used an early seven-point run to pull away, eventually winning 25-13.
The Scots are off until Thursday, October 10
th when they will host Bethel at 7:00 p.m.
