ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team fell to Bethel University in three sets, 25-8, 25-15, 25-19 in a MIAC match Thursday night in the Leonard Center. The Scots drop to 3-15 overall and 0-6 in the conference, while the Royals improve to 15-5, 4-1 MIAC.
Bethel dominated the first set, with the Scots staying close in the second set before the Royals closed with a 9-3 run. In the third set, Macalester rallied late to pull to within five points, but the Scots could not prevent the sweep. The win was Bethel's 10th victory in a row.
First year outside hitter
Zoe Lowe (Longmont, Colo./Longmont) led the Scots with seven kills to go with 10 digs, while sophomore setter
Claire Loomans (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) recorded 17 assists. Defensively, first year defensive specialist
Katrina Schoen (Grafton, Wis./Cedarburg) notched 16 digs and junior middle hitter
Sofia Parmelee (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) tallied three blocks. Bethel's Allie Fauth led all players with nine kills.
Macalester plays a non-conference match at home on Friday, Oct. 12 against Northwood College. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
