ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Macalester College volleyball team topped Northland on Friday night, using an impressive effort to earn the 3-1 win in front of an energetic crowd at the Leonard Center. With the victory, the Scots improve to 4-15 on the season and the Jills fall to 6-13.

Macalester recorded a variety of season-highs in the match to come away with their fourth win of year. The team combined for 14 aces, which is the most since October 14, 2017 when the Scots racked up 18 aces against North Central. Macalester also hit for their most efficient percentage of the year at .225.

The Scots were led by career efforts from both first year
Eliza King (Novato, Calif./San Marin) and sophomore
Claire Loomans (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest). King was solid all the way around, compiling her fourth double-double of the season with a career-high 16 kills and 13 digs in the match. Loomans totaled 39 assists, which was also a career-high.

Junior
Sofia Parmelee (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) put up an impressive performance in the middle for the Scots, recording 10 kills and three blocks, while hitting for a .429 percentage. First year
Annika White (Stillwater, Minn./St. Croix Prep) chipped in with a career-high eight kills and first year
Katrina Schoen (Grafton, Wis./Cedarburg) had 18 digs in the back row.

King also led the way in aces with four on the night, but senior
Deborah Pickford (Denver, Colo./East) was not far behind, with three of her own. Schoen, White, and
Zoe Lowe (Longmont, Colo./Longmont) all had two aces as well.

The first set was tight throughout, as the score was tied 14 different times. The Scots and the Jills were tied at 20-20, but Macalester was able to close it out, taking the 1-0 lead with a 25-22 decision.

The Scots were unstoppable in set two, hitting for an imposing .409 percentage. Macalester was leading 7-6, but went on an incredible 18-3 point run to win 25-9. Parmelee paced the hitters in the set with four kills and both King and Pickford had two aces.

In set three, the Scots saw the momentum shift the other way as Northland used a six-point run to win the set 25-17. Macalester bounced back in set four, however, working back from a 6-9 deficit with four straight points to take over the lead at 10-9. The Scots would not trail again in the set, going on to win it 25-18 to take the match 3-1.

The Scots return to their conference schedule with their next matchup, facing St. Catherine on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
