ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team won the first set against St. Olaf before ultimately losing, 21-25, 25-9, 25-16, 25-10 in a MIAC match Saturday afternoon in the Leonard Center. The Scots drop to 4-19 overall and 0-9 in the conference, while the Oles, ranked first in the Central Region, improve to 23-4, 6-3 MIAC.
In the first set, Macalester trailed 13-10 before reeling off six straight points, including three kills from first year outside hitter
Eliza King (Novato, Calif./San Marin). After St. Olaf fought back to lead 18-17, the Scots tallied eight of the next 11 points to win the set, 25-21. King ended up with four kills in the set, while first year defensive specialist
Katrina Schoen (Grafton, Wis./Cedarburg) racked up 11 digs.
After St. Olaf cruised to a 25-9 victory in the second set, Macalester battled in the third set before falling, 25-16. The Oles put the match away with a 25-10 win in the fourth and final set. The loss marked the final home game of the season for the Scots.
King led Macalester with 12 kills to go with seven digs, while junior middle hitter
Sofia Parmelee (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) added five kills. Sophomore setter
Claire Loomans (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) registered 23 assists, with Schoen recording 17 digs. Lauren Rewers and Summer Reid each had 12 kills to pace St. Olaf.
Macalester continues MIAC play with a match at Gustavus on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The match starts at 7:00 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.
