APPLETON, Wis. – The Macalester College volleyball team opened the ACM Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Beloit before falling to Ripon in three sets Saturday afternoon at Lawrence University. The results give the Scots a 3-4 record on the season.
Macalester started the day by defeating Beloit in a close match, 25-27, 25-23, 26-24, 25-17. Junior right side
Grace Brickner (Bronx, N.Y./Fieldston) led all players with a career-high 16 kills to go with 14 digs and two aces in a solid all-around effort. Senior outside hitter
Nicole Bennington (Shelton, Wash./Olympia) added 11 kills and three blocks, while sophomore middle hitter
Sofia Parmelee (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) contributed eight kills, three blocks and three aces. Senior setter
Emily Bowler (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay) delivered 47 assists and tallied 13 digs. Sophomore libero
Abrielle Dillon (Brown Deer, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) paced the defense with 28 digs.
In the day's second match, the Scots ran into a tough Ripon squad that earned a 25-16, 25-16, 25-21 sweep. Brickner registered eight kills and Bennington had six kills to lead Macalester's attack. Dillon finished with 12 digs defensively.
The Scots close out play at the ACM Tournament on Sunday, Sept. 9 with matches against host Lawrence at 10:00 a.m. and Lake Forest at 12:00 p.m.
