ST. PAUL, Minn. – Two Macalester College student-athletes received All-Midwest Region honors as D3baseball.com announced its all-region honorees. Junior Graham Low (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) was included on the second team, while senior Ben Castagnetti (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) made the third team.

The 2018 MIAC Most Valuable Player of the Year, Low also was named All-Region second team by the ABCA along with seniors Collin Brantner (Farmington, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) and Joe Trier (Madison, Wis./West). The catcher/designated hitter batted .370 with nine doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 29 runs batted in. Low also led the Scots in homers, total bases (71), slugging percentage (.710) and on-base percentage (.450) while ranking first in the MIAC in slugging, second in home runs and fifth in total bases. In a win over St. Olaf on May 2, Low went 4-for-4 with three doubles and a homer. Against Saint John's on Apr. 22, his two-run home run in the sixth turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 victory. Through 103 career games, Low is batting .305 with 95 hits, 16 homers and 81 RBIs.

This is the second All-Region award for Castagnetti, who earned All-Region honors from the ABCA as a sophomore. This year he made the All-MIAC after batting .328 with nine doubles, three triples, 15 RBIs and a team-leading nine stolen bases in 10 attempts. The third baseman also homered as a part of a 4-for-4 performance in a win over Bethany Lutheran on Mar. 25. Castagnetti completed his career with 147 hits and a .348 batting average.

Macalester, coached by Matt Parrington, finished the year with a 21-17 record overall and an 11-9 mark in the conference. The Scots qualified for their second MIAC Playoffs in a row for the first time in the program's history.
