NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Macalester College water polo team completed play at the CWPA Regional Tournament with wins over host Connecticut College and Grove City Sunday morning at Connecticut College. The Scots remain unbeaten in 2018 at 7-0.
In the 8-4 victory over Connecticut College, Macalester opened up a 6-1 lead, sparked by three goals from sophomore
Oriana Galasso (Gresham, Ore./Central Catholic). Connecticut College scored the next two goals to make the score 6-3, but
Lucille Moran (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) tallied her third goal of the game and senior
Brooke Finney (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison) found the net for an 8-3 advantage. The Camels scored the final goal of the game but the Scots held the hosts scoreless through the final quarter.
Junior
Natalie Hoffman (Seattle, Wash./Inglemoor) had five steals and a goal, while Finney finished with three assists. Junior goalkeeper
Courtney Overland (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani) made 11 saves.
Against Grove City, Macalester came out strong offensively again, scoring 10 goals in the first half for a 10-3 lead. Moran, Galasso and sophomore
Cara Mullery (Palmetto Bay, Fla./MAST Academy) each scored three goals in the half. Grove City scored five goals over the final two quarters, but Moran, Galasso, Hoffman and Mullery found the net to close out the 14-8 win.
Overland again tallied 11 saves in the win.
The victory extends the Scots' winning streak to 16 games, stretching back to last season. Macalester's most recent loss came against Carthage on Mar. 25, 2017.
The Scots head to California for five games, beginning on Mar. 15 at the University of La Verne.
