ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's basketball team closed out its home schedule with a 103-59 loss to Bethel University Wednesday night in the Leonard Center. The Scots are now 3-21 overall and 2-17 in league play, while the Royals improve to 18-6, 13-6 MIAC.
Bethel took control of a close game by reeling off a 30-7 run during an eight-minute stretch in the first half to lead 44-20. The visitors maintained the 24-point advantage, 50-26 at the break, scoring 18 points off of 11 Scot turnovers in the first half.
The second half saw Bethel push its lead to 66-38 over the first four minutes that included four three-pointers. For the game, the Royals drained 23 threes in 40 attempts (57.6 percent) while holding Macalester to six threes for the game. The Scots held a 41-35 rebounding edge and outscored Bethel in the paint, 28-22 but ended up shooting 33.8 percent from the floor.

Rob Newman (Westchester, N.Y./Rye Country Day) matched his career high with 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. First year forward
Jackson Henningfield (Lake Mary, Fla./Lyman) also scored 12 points, while senior guard
Brett Olson (New London, Minn./New London-Spicer) contributed 11 points and four rebounds in his final game in the Leonard Center. Granger Kingland led all players with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Macalester finishes the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Augsburg. The MIAC game starts at 1:00 p.m. in Minneapolis, Minn.
