Women's Basketball: Scots Fall to La Crosse, Togneri Breaks Single-Game Block Record

La Crosse, Wis.- The Macalester women's basketball team lost their first game on the road tonight to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, 65-46. Macalester played tough on the boards leading to sophomore Kayla Togneri (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) breaking the Macalester single-game block record with seven blocks on the day.

The Scots lost a tough one to the Eagles as the Scots lead for most of the game. Getting a hot start from an opening three-pointer from junior Tyana Loiselle (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls) to put the Scots on the board, Macalester went on to lead 17-9 at the end of the first period.

Sophomore Justine Barraza (Burbank, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) helped the Scots build their lead in the second period scoring eight points, tallying 13 in the total in the half. Macalester also had help from sophomore Luci Swift (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) who scored three for three from behind the arc. The Scots shot 63.3 percent in three pointers for the first half and went into halftime up 31-24.

Coming out of the half the Scots saw the Eagles gain the lead, scoring just eight points in the period. Macalester was lifted by a three-pointer from Barraza with just seconds left in the quarter to bring the score to 42-39 in favor of the Eagles.

The Eagles fourth quarter offensive push became too much and with Macalester giving up 11 points off of turnovers to La Crosse, th Scots lost their second game of the year 65-46. Barraza was the leading scorer for Macalester with 22 points and six rebounds.

Macalester returns to the road this Friday, Nov. 16, against Wheaton College at 3:00 p.m. in Wheaton, Ill.
