Women's Basketball: Scots Drop First Game in Beth Baker Classic

WHEATON, Ill.- The Macalester women's basketball team lost their first game of the Beth Baker Classic today to Wheaton College, 76-62.

After falling behind early the Scots went on a 20-8 scoring run in the first quarter. Macalester began the offensive push with a three-pointer from junior Holly Hull (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest). Ending the quarter with another make from behind the arc for sophomore Justine Barraza (Burbank, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) and two free throws for junior Tyana Loiselle (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls) , the Scots went into the second up 20-14.

The Scots continued to score after the break and however the Thunder tied the game up 25-25 in the middle of the second quarter. Barraza and first year Celine Sabbagh (Eau Claire, Wis./Regis) each tallied three pointers at the end of the quarter but the Scots went into half down 35-31. The Scots found nothing in the paint but shot 83.33 percent from beyond on the arc in the first half.

Out of the halftime break, the Scots were unable to regain the lead. Macalester kept the gap tight till the last minutes of the quarter, only trailing by three, but the Thunder made a late push and the third ended 55-46 to Wheaton. Wheaton then ran away with the game in the fourth, winning 76-62.
