COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Macalester College men's basketball team dropped a conference game to 12th-ranked Saint John's University, 133-80 Wednesday night in Sexton Arena. The Scots fall to 2-13 overall and 1-9 in the MIAC, while the Johnnies move to 13-1, 9-0 MIAC.
Saint John's came out firing from long range, hitting seven three-pointers in building a 33-12 lead by the 10:29 mark of the first half. The Johnnies ended up making 8-of-14 from beyond the arc while shooting 63.6 percent from the field overall in the first half to take a 70-30 advantage at the break.
In the second half, first year forward
Jackson Henningfield (Lake Mary, Fla./Lyman) scored 22 of his career-high 26 points to lead the Scots. Henningfield, who tallied his previous career best of 25 points in Saturday's win at Saint Mary's, made 7-of-10 from the field after halftime, including 4-of-5 from three-point range. He also finished with five rebounds and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. First year guard
Gabriel Ramos (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Tasis Dorado) and sophomore guard
Nikhil Smith (Augusta, Ga./Lakeside) also posted career highs, with Ramos scoring 12 points and Smith recording 11 points to go with three assists. First year guard
Keegan Greaney (Sisters, Ore./Sisters) contributed seven points, five boards and two steals.
Patrick Strom made eight of the Johnnies' 12 threes on the night en route to 24 points.
Macalester hosts MIAC foe Augsburg on Saturday, Jan. 20, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
