ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College junior
Nick McMullen (Payson, Ariz./Payson) was named to the Division III Academic All-District 6 team for baseball by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced today. McMullen is now a candidate for Academic All-American honors.
Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 and be a starter or significant contributor to be considered for Academic All-District and All-American accolades.
McMullen, who is majoring in applied math and statistics at Macalester, has a 3.78 GPA through five semesters. On the diamond, he is batting .331 with 14 doubles, two triples, four home runs and a MIAC-leading 36 runs batted in. An All-MIAC and All-Region performer in 2016, McMullen also ranks second in the MIAC in doubles, fifth in hits (48) and fourth in stolen bases (11). He is also a relief pitcher on the mound with four saves and an earned run average of 3.00.
Through 86 career games, McMullen has 109 hits while batting .349 with 25 doubles, 14 home runs and 82 RBIs.
McMullen has played a key role in Macalester's return to the MIAC Playoffs this season. The Scots, who last made the postseason in 2011, will be the fourth seed and will face the MIAC's No. 1 seed on Thursday, May 11 at Becker Park in Collegeville, Minn.
