MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Macalester College water polo team earned two wins on Sunday at Monmouth College. The Scots edged Carthage, 10-9 and defeated host Monmouth, 8-3 to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Against Carthage, Macalester came back from a 7-5 deficit with three straight goals for an 8-7 advantage. After Carthage tied the score at 8-8 and 9-9, sophomore
Lucille Moran (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) found the net with 1:41 to play for the go-ahead goal. The Scots' defense held, closing out the 10-9 victory. First year
Oriana Galasso (Gresham, Ore.) tallied four goals, while Moran and first year
Cara Mullery (Palmetto Bay, Fla./MAST Academy) had two goals apiece.
Macalester earned its second win over Monmouth this weekend by limiting the hosts to just three goals in today's match. Sophomore goalkeeper
Courtney Overland (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani) made 11 of her 15 saves in the second half, while Moran scored three goals. Galasso and Mullery each had two goals in the win.
The Scots return to action on Mar. 15 with a match at the University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif.
