LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Macalester College water polo team continued its California trip with a pair of games on Saturday at two different colleges. In the morning, the Scots downed Caltech, 18-8 in Pasadena. In the afternoon, Macalester traveled to Los Angeles to face Occidental College, losing 12-8.
In the victory over Caltech, the Scots (5-4) outscored the Beavers, 10-3 in the second half to break open a close game. First year
Oriana Galasso (Gresham, Ore.) tallied eight goals for Macalester, while sophomore
Natalie Hoffman (Seattle, Wash./Inglemoor) scored four times and first year
Naomi Strait (Beaverton, Ore.) scored three times. Sophomore goalkeeper
Courtney Overland (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani) made seven saves in goal for the Scots.
Against Occidental, first year
Cara Mullery (Palmetto Bay, Fla./MAST Academy) scored four goals to lead Macalester. Galasso and Hoffman added two goals apiece, as the Scots never led in the match.
Macalester will play seven matches in three days next weekend at a tournament hosted by Connecticut College. The Scots open play with matches against Utica and Washington and Jefferson on Friday, Mar. 24 in New London, Conn.
