THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Macalester College water polo team defeated Connecticut College, 6-5 before falling to the host Regals at California Lutheran University Thursday at Samuelson Aquatics Center. The Scots are now 4-2 on the season.

Against Connecticut College, Macalester took a 2-0 lead on goals by sophomore Natalie Hoffman (Seattle, Wash./Inglemoor) and first year Cara Mullery (Palmetto Bay, Fla./MAST Academy). After Connecticut tied the score with two straight goals, junior Brooke Finney (Grand Rapids, Mich./Jenison) found the net for a 3-2 edge at halftime. Sophomore Lucille Moran (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) made it 4-2 with a goal early in the third quarter, but Connecticut tallied three consecutive goals to lead 5-4. Moran's second goal of the game knotted the score at 5-5 with 2:14 left in the quarter, then Hoffman tallied the go-ahead goal with 5:01 remaining in the game. The goal proved to be the game-winner, as Connecticut was unable to score the tying goal.

In the day's second game, Cal Lutheran jumped out to a 5-1 lead after one quarter. Mullery and Moran scored second-quarter goals to make the score 5-3, but the Regals reeled off four straight goals to take a commanding 9-3 advantage. Mullery found the net twice in the fourth quarter, with Moran and Finney also scoring in the final period, but Cal Lutheran closed out the win, 10-7.

Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Overland (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani) registered six saves in goal for the Scots.

Macalester will play at Chapman University on Friday, Mar. 17 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific in Orange, Calif.
