ST. JOSEPH, Minn.- The Macalester College women's basketball team lost away to the College of Saint Benedict 66-44 tonight. The Scots are now 2-4 on the season and are 1-1 in conference.
The Scots fell behind early and were down 21-13 at the end of the first half. Against the Blazers in the second quarter, Macalester came within two points in the middle of the quarter with three steals by sophomore guard
Tyana Loiselle (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls), sophomore guard
Holly Hull (Overland Park, Kan/Blue Valley Northwest) and sophomore forward
Caitlyn Burmester (Columbia, Md./Atholton).
In an overall team effort, he Scots were only down three at half, 32-29, with Hull scoring four points and both Loiselle and senior
Leah Gray (San Rafael, Calif.) scoring three points respectively in the second quarter.
Senior
Regan Fruh (Helena, Mont./Helena) led the Scots with 16 points tonight. With tonight's game, Fruh now ranks 9
th in Macalester women's all-time career points.
The Scots, however, were unable to keep up with the College of Saint Benedict and fell 10 points by the end of the third quarter. Macalester only shot 30.5 percent from the field and the Blazers held the Scots to five points in the fourth quarter, going on to win 66-44.
The Blazers were led by Niki Fokken who scored 28 points on the night.
The Scots are back in action at home against Carleton on Saturday, Dec. 08 in St. Paul, Minn. at 3:00 p.m.
