DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Macalester College men's basketball team fell to Loras College, 165-89 in a non-conference game Friday night at Lillis Court. The loss marked the first of two games in Iowa for the Scots (1-7), who face Coe College Saturday afternoon.
The Duhawks (8-3) pulled away early in the first half and never looked back, shooting 70.6 percent from the field in the first half in building a 100-41 advantage. Loras hit 12-of-20 from three-point range while out-scoring Macalester 46-16 in the paint over the first 20 minutes. The Scots ended up with 13 steals for the game and shot 78.9 percent (30-of-38) from the free throw line, but they were unable to cut into the Duhawks' substantial lead.
Four Macalester players scored in double figures, led by first year guard
Aidan Toner-Rodgers (Sebastopol, Calif./Analy) with a career-high 18 points. Junior forward
Wyatt Ferm (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) scored 14 points, first year forward
Jackson Henningfield (Lake Mary, Fla./Lyman) added 13 points, and sophomore forward
Rob Newman (Westchester, N.Y./Rye Country Day) tallied 12 points and two steals.
Loras' Rowan McGowen and Ryan DiCanio each hit six three-pointers en route to 26 and 24 points, respectively.
Macalester closes out its Iowa trip with a game against Coe College in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 4:00 p.m.
