CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Macalester College men's basketball team closed out its two-game Iowa trip with a loss to Coe College, 114-66 in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon at Kohawks Court. The Scots, who fell at Loras College on Friday, are now 1-8, while the Kohawks improve to 5-7.

Coe opened the game with a 13-2 run and built a 22-8 advantage early in the first half. Trailing 35-22 later in the half, Macalester used a basket by first year guard Tommy Clark (Burbank, Calif./Burbank) and three-pointers from sophomore forward Rob Newman (Westchester, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) and first year guard Gabriel Ramos (Dorado, Puerto Rico/Tasis Dorado) to pull to within six, 36-30 with 5:40 on the clock. But the Kohawks closed out the half with a 15-4 run to take a 51-34 lead at the break.

Momentum stayed with the hosts into the second half, as Coe pushed its lead to 69-37 with an 18-3 run over the first 3:21 of the half. The Kohawks ended up shooting 54.5 percent from the field while scoring 36 points off 28 Macalester turnovers. The Scots made 11 three-pointers and received 53 points from their bench.

First year forward Jackson Henningfield (Lake Mary, Fla./Lyman) led Macalester with 13 points and eight rebounds while hitting 3-of-6 from three-point range. Spencer Williams made all 11 of his field goal attempts to finish with 24 points and nine rebounds to pace Coe.
 
The Scots resume MIAC play with a home game against St. Thomas on Wednesday, Jan. 3. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
