DECORAH, Iowa- The Macalester College women's basketball team took on Luther College in the Scots' 2017-18 opener. Macalester fell to the Norse 82-74 despite a strong offensive fourth quarter.
In the non-conference match up the Scots fell short for the first three quarters until they outscored the Norse 25-21 in the fourth. Macalester trailed 35-28 in the half and despite being 21 points down in the third quarter were able to pull within eight points of Luther at full time. Macalester turned things around with a strong shooting game at the line, shooting 88.5 percent in the game.
The Scots capitalized with senior
Regan Fruh (Helena, Mont. / Helena) who led the Macalester with 27 points shooting eight from the field and making 11 of 16 free throws. Fruh also led the Scots with eight rebounds. Sophomore
Tyana Loiselle (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls) had a strong game tallying 17 points and shooting 80 percent from the line.
Senior
Leah Gray (San Rafael, Calif. / Branson School) and sophomore
Holly Hull (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) were strong on the glass for the Scots, both tallying 7 rebounds.
Luther was led by Claire Marburger who shot 7 of 12 and perfect from the line for 24 points.
Macalester will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at Crown College in St. Bonifacius, Minn. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
